UNC Health Southeastern Rated as High Performing in Two Additional Areas by U.S. News

UNC Health Southeastern received recognition in the 2026-2027 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings as a high performing hospital in two adult procedures/conditions: diabetes and kidney failure. The health system announced in December 2025 that it was rated as a Best Hospital for Maternity Care for 2026, also by U.S. News.

“We firmly believe in the excellent care we provide to our patients every day, and earning this national recognition confirms that our ongoing work is achieving the results we intend,” said UNC Health Southeastern President and CEO Chris Ellington. “Our teammates are committed to delivering outstanding care to the people in our region, and it is deeply gratifying to see their role in advancing community health recognized in this way.”

According to UNC News, "High Performing" means the hospital’s results are among the best in the nation, significantly better than the national average, for that specialty or procedure. Of the nearly 4,500 hospitals analyzed and more than 300,000 physicians surveyed, only 178 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties.

UNC Health Southeastern was the only hospital rated as high performing in several surrounding counties, including Bladen, Columbus and Scotland in North Carolina, and Dillon County in South Carolina, further contributing to the unique care that it provides to the region. 

UNC Health Southeastern Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Renae Taylor explained, “Earning top ratings for our clinical care demonstrates that prioritizing quality guides every aspect of our work. The areas in which we’ve been recognized involve many of our sickest patients, which further reinforces our dedication to going beyond expected clinical benchmarks.”
