Becker's Honors Dr. Joe Roberts on 180 Chief Medical Officers to Know in 2025 List

UNC Health Southeastern Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joe Roberts was named to Becker's Hospital Review's 180 chief medical officers to know in 2025 list that was released in early December 2024.
According to Becker's, chief medical officers are the driving force behind safe, efficient and effective care at their hospitals and health systems. The leaders on this list are champions of patient safety, skilled connectors between medical staff and leadership, and true agents of positive change. This list celebrates CMOs who are raising the bar with innovative quality improvement and safety initiatives. Becker’s Healthcare is excited to spotlight their incredible achievements and the critical role they play in their organizations' successes.

Joseph Roberts, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at UNC Health Southeastern (Lumberton, N.C.)
Since 2020, Dr. Roberts has served as a vice president and chief medical officer for UNC Health Southeastern. He oversees the health system's medical staff, its medical education program, and its infection control and quality departments. Prior to UNC Health Southeastern beginning its residency program, he was a preceptor for hundreds of students studying to be doctors, physician assistants or pharmacists. In 2022, he was appointed to the Lumbee Tribe Board of Health. He has served as a panel physician for UNC Health Southeastern Wound Care and as medical director for numerous healthcare entities including Glen Flora Nursing Home, WoodHaven Nursing Center, and Wesley Pines Retirement Community. He currently serves as medical director for Community Hospice.
